Episode 29 – General Market update

Pete’s Market update – June 2012

Item: Star Wars MOC Lot/Bundle Number 1
Why: Why not, when a great set of figures goes for $7K I think it deserves a mention. In the case of this set it’s 1 of 2 in the Marketwatch tonight. These pieces are the basis to an incredible start to a collection. I really don’t think a lot of people who start out in the hobby realize that they can save a ton of time, energy and money by picking up sets like this. If you look at the per figure price of $163 you can see why a set of figures like this
Final Price = $7025
Number of MOC Figures = 43
Price per figure = $163.47 eBay link

MOC Lot of 43

Item: Star Wars MOC Lot Number 2
Why: The second nice set of MOCs was tailored more towards the latter movies in the series. Similar to the first bundled auction, this particular auction finished for $1525/23 MOCs = $66.30 per figure. This was quite a bargain considering which figures filled just the top row of the auction picture. You have several of the orginal figures, Luke, Han, Leia, Ben, R2, Chewy, and C3PO. All of which command a much higher value then the average per figure price. On the low end you have a few ROTJ figures that would go for $50-$80 depending on condition.
Final Price = $1525
Number of MOC Figures = 23

MOC – Lot of 23

Item: VCJ MOC 1
Why: Last month we saw three examples of high end Jawa figures in comparison to each other, with the highest valued item being a loose AFA 90 VCJ. This month we have the big brother of this item, that being the AFA 90 MOC VCJ. This shocked me but demonstrated that people do crazy things for the best condition items out there. The average collector may not understand this but at the end of the day it’s been a proven trend over time, and this is no exception. In the same month we see other VCJs going for $2000-$3000 on average for AFA 60-80 condition. Last month we saw a non-graded MOC go for under $1000, so when a figure like this draws a price like this, it can’t help but gain some attention and deserves a mention. I have to give a shout out to Jaisonline from Rebelscum for reaching out to ensure we got this one!

12 Back VCJ – AFA85

Item: Luke Jedi ROTJ MOC Spanish PBP POCH
Why: An incredible find, the PBP POCH MOCs have become a favorite of the foreign collectors holy grail list. This month we find two that were put on the market and gained incredible results in terms of the dollars they attracted from the community.

ESB Luke Bespin – PBP MOC AFA75

Boba Fett Trilogo AFA60
Why: A popular figure and a popular variation lead to a pretty cool find. For years Boba Fett has been the top draw in terms of dollars per figure in the Star Wars community, and the Tri Logo version is no exception, this Palitoy release is one of the most popular amongst both Fett Focus collectors and TriLogo Focus collectors.
Rarity (Scale of 1-10) – 7
Price (Scale of 1-10) – 6
Price of this auction: $3100 eBay link

Rancor – 1st Shot Light Brown Paint
Why: Now from the super expensive to the super rare but not really that expensive…. This one baffled me and to me it reinforces that high listing prices are not the way to go on eBay. I say that as this near one of a kind item went for under $600. Part of which may be due to the fact that you can’t be 100% on it’s origin based on the listing.
Rarity (Scale of 1-10) – 9/10 (Maybe 1-2 of this paint style)
Price (Scale of 1-10) – 5
Price of this auction: $599 eBay link

Rancor – First shot

ROTJ Collect all 79 Store Display
Why: One of the more colorful and more widely distributed displays were the ones used at the end of the ROTJ run to push the final Collect all 79 Campaign. This two sided display features different characters on each side making a bit difficult to display but nonetheless very cool and unique.
Rarity (Scale of 1-10) – 9/10 (Maybe 1-2 of this paint style)
Price (Scale of 1-10) – 5
Price of this auction: $450 eBay link
